Here’s a solid post by a Verblio (formerly BlogMutt) writer written to help recruit new writers! This kind of blog post, and our appearance on a leading TV station in our hometown, has really helped. We were stretched a bit thin before, but now we have more than 500 writers qualified on our system to write posts for businesses. If your business would like to have posts like this on your site (not about us, but about you!) then check out our blog writing service. — Scott
If you want to make a career as a writer, it can be difficult to get your foot in the door and begin making an actual living from your new profession. When you’re beginning to look into jobs for a writer, it can seem like you’ve found several roads that only lead to dead ends. These dead ends should not stop anyone looking to write for a living because with a little determination and self-will, you can become a professional writer and land several high paying gigs.
When you first set foot into the writing world there are a few things you want to consider. The first question you’ll want to answer is which type of writing do you want to do? You can be a creative writer, a blogger, a technical writer, or a versatile freelance writer who completes odd jobs through the industry. Choosing a writing genre that speaks to you will help keep you motivated towards establishing your writing career.
Once you’ve decided on the writing route you’re going to take, you’ll need to start digging. Writing jobs are not just going to pop up out of nowhere. You will need to do your research and you’ll need to continue looking for more writing jobs even after you have found a few that spark your interest.
One of the main reasons potential writers give up hope is because they become discouraged by rejection. Rejection is a part of the writing world. Odds are, you’ll apply for ten jobs, but you may only get accepted for one of those positions. What you need to keep in mind is that this one position will give you the opportunity to enhance your writing skills and have better success when applying for jobs in the future.
The best tip for anyone who is trying to make it is as a writer is to never put all of your eggs in one basket. Even when you’ve landed a few great paying gigs, those gigs can be gone in the blink of an eye and you’ll be left right where you started. Continue looking for and applying to different writing positions at all times, even if things are stable at the time. This way if your other writing positions should ever fall through, you’ll have something solid to fall back on.
